Web Design · Case Study
Verdana Kitchen was losing reservations to competitors every week — not because of their food, but because their website made them look closed. We rebuilt it from the ground up.
Reservations in 30 days
More site traffic
Start to launch
Verdana Kitchen had built a loyal following through word of mouth and consistently great food. But their website hadn't been updated in years — it was slow, broken on mobile, and buried their reservation button three clicks deep. People were searching for the restaurant, landing on the site, and leaving before they booked.
The owner knew they were losing reservations every week. They just didn't know how to fix it. When they came to us, their bounce rate was above 74% and less than 8% of visitors were clicking through to a reservation.
"We had the food, we had the reviews, we had the reputation — but the website made us look like we'd closed down. We needed it to match who we actually are."
We started with a 90-minute discovery session to understand the restaurant's story, clientele, and what made regulars come back. The goal wasn't just a prettier site — it was a site that converted visitors to reservations.
We restructured the entire information hierarchy: the reservation CTA moved above the fold, the menu became scannable on mobile, and the brand photography (warm tones, real ingredients, real staff) replaced the generic stock images that had made the site feel impersonal.
We also rebuilt the site from scratch as a fast, mobile-first HTML/CSS build — cutting load time from 6.2 seconds to under 1.4 seconds, which directly impacts both Google rankings and bounce rate.
Within 30 days of launch, Verdana Kitchen's online reservations had doubled. Site traffic increased 40% and the bounce rate dropped from 74% to 31%. The reservation button — now prominent above the fold — became the most-clicked element on the site.
"The new site launched on a Tuesday. By Saturday we were fully booked for the following two weekends. The team didn't just build us a website — they built us a reservation machine."
